Ankota vs HHAeXchange
Updated October 20, 2026
Federal law requires state Medicaid programs to use electronic visit verification for home care, so caregivers must log each visit's time and place in an approved system before an agency gets paid. Ankota and HHAeXchange both handle that, but agencies often learn the choice is partly made for them: many states and Medicaid plans route visits through the HHAeXchange network, while Ankota competes as agency software that covers more program types. The first question is what your payers require, which is why we compared the two.
Our analysts compared Ankota and HHAeXchange on what each system is, why agencies pick it, billing and payroll, family tools, and setup, using the HIR review of each company and each vendor's own announcements this year. In the following sections, we compare them in one table, describe the agency each one suits, and list what each has launched recently.

Which fits which buyer
Ask your Medicaid plans which visit verification system they expect you to use.
Choose Ankota if
- You run home care alongside adult day, I/DD, or self-direction programs.
- You want families to see visits and updates in their own app.
- Your state lets you pick your own system and send visit data to its aggregator.
Choose HHAeXchange if
- Your state or Medicaid plans use the HHAeXchange network.
- You want visit confirmation and payer links in the same place as scheduling.
- You want payroll or billing work handled inside the same platform.
Verdict
Ankota scores higher and fits agencies running several Medicaid program types that want one system with family tools. HHAeXchange fits agencies whose payers and states run on its network, where joining is often the practical choice.
Skilled home health agencies that bill Medicare should look at a clinical EMR instead of either one.
