BestNotes vs Kipu Health

Updated October 21, 2026

Addiction treatment programs need more from their records system than a therapy practice does, from logging each medication dose to tracking admissions calls and meeting accreditation rules. BestNotes and Kipu Health both serve those programs, and the difference buyers tend to miss is scale: BestNotes sells a complete system at a posted per-user price that suits small and mid-size programs, while Kipu builds a broader platform for operators running several facilities. Your program's size and growth plans decide which one pays off, so we compared them.

Our analysts compared BestNotes and Kipu Health on price, buyer, coverage, contract terms, levels of care, and results, using the HIR review of each company and each vendor's own site checked this month. In the following sections, we compare them in one table, describe the program each one suits, and list what each has announced this year.

Where the two tools are headed in 2027 and beyond

BestNotes: BestNotes announced a partnership with The SPiER Project in October 2026 to build suicide risk screening, safety plans, and follow-up through care transitions into its workflows.

Kipu Health: Kipu Health bought Team Recovery Technologies, a patient engagement and alumni company, on April 23, 2026. It linked its EMR to Opio's robotic methadone dose system for opioid treatment programs on August 6, 2026, and will hold its ELEVATE 2027 customer conference on May 3 to 5, 2027, where it plans to give customers first access to new products.

Ask each vendor whether those additions cost extra on your contract.
