Office Ally

Brian O'Neill founded Office Ally, a Vancouver, Washington company that runs a low-cost claims clearinghouse for small medical practices. A practice uses it to send claims and check insurance eligibility without buying billing software.

A Programmer in California

He grew up in Ohio, earned a degree in computer science, and moved to California at 20. He worked as a programmer for defense contractors and then for IBM.

Building Office Ally

He started Office Ally around 2000. Its first customer was St. Joseph's IPA in Orange, California, which paid 25 cents a claim. He put about $500,000 from his 401(k) into Office Ally, never borrowed, and it broke even in June 2003. Office Ally moved to Vancouver, Washington, in 2009 and grew to handle about 25 million claims a month for 720,000 providers.

Francisco Partners bought Office Ally in December 2021. O'Neill retired, and Chris Hart became chief executive. O'Neill died in August 2025.
