Methinks AI
Cristian Martí is the founder, chairman, and chief scientific officer of Methinks AI, a Barcelona, Spain company that makes stroke software for non-contrast CT scans. Hospitals use it to flag suspected blocked brain arteries and bleeds on the first scan a stroke patient usually gets.
Early life
He was born in Barcelona in 1972. He has been programming since 1982, when his father brought an Apple computer home. He studied industrial engineering at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia and earned an MBA at IESE Business School.
Business
His first company, Coordina, tracked vehicles by GPS and was acquired by TomTom in 2013. He founded Methinks in 2016 to analyze head CT scans of stroke patients so doctors can decide on treatment in time. Asked by Tech Barcelona for a good idea he had had, he named persuading Pau Rodríguez to become chief executive and Carlos Crespo to become chief technology officer.
Asked for a bad professional experience, he pointed to European funding. "Three times we have been selected for the final phase of the H2020 EIC programme, three times we have been knocked down," he said, describing having to recover each time. He has said he likes to work "without being too sure that things will work out, in a close-knit group."
Personal
Asked for the best advice he has been given, he answered: "Try cycling to work."
