Founder and CEO

Blueprint

Danny Freed is the founder and chief executive of Blueprint, a Chicago, Illinois, company that makes AI note-taking software and an EHR for therapists. He is not a clinician and built the company around what he learned from hundreds of mental health professionals.

Product Work in Chicago

Before Blueprint he helped lead product and design at Trunk Club, the clothing service Nordstrom bought. He also co-founded Companion, a personal safety app used by millions of people.

Losing a Friend in College

When he was in college, one of his closest friends, who had bipolar disorder, took his own life. "One of my closest friends was suffering from bipolar disorder," he said in 2019. In the years after, he spoke with hundreds of mental health professionals.

Founding Blueprint

He started the company in late 2016 as HelloJoy, which offered consumers mental health self-assessments through Facebook Messenger, and moved it to tools for clinicians by mid-2018. Blueprint, founded in January 2019, first gave therapists measurement-based care, with clients completing assessments between sessions. It has since added an AI assistant that drafts session notes and an EHR, both priced by session. "It never sat right with us that a therapist seeing five clients a week would pay the same as one seeing fifty," he wrote.
