Dereck Paul
Co-founder and CEO
Glass Health
Dereck Paul is a physician and co-founder and chief executive of Glass Health, a San Francisco, California company that makes AI software for clinicians. A doctor types in a patient summary or records a visit, and Glass drafts a list of possible diagnoses and a treatment plan that cite their sources.
Studying at Johns Hopkins
He studied biotechnology at Johns Hopkins University, where professors who were also inventors made him want to start a company. He tried to launch one as a pre-med student, and it did not work out.
Medical Training in California and Boston
He attended the UCSF School of Medicine, and during medical school he served as chief of staff at an AI drug discovery company backed by Y Combinator. He then trained as an internal medicine resident at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.
Co-founding Glass Health
During the COVID-19 pandemic he saw how little help the software gave doctors, and in 2021 he founded Glass with Graham Ramsey. Glass went through Y Combinator in early 2023 and raised a $5 million seed round led by Initialized Capital that September. Physicians on its staff write and check the clinical content behind its answers.
In 2024 Glass showed a version that runs inside the electronic health record, next to the patient's chart, and it now connects to athenaOne, eClinicalWorks, Epic, and Elation.
