Co-founder and Co-CEO

Assort Health

Jon Wang is co-founder and co-chief executive of Assort Health, a San Francisco company that makes AI voice agents for specialty medical practices. A Stanford-trained bioinformatician who left medical school to build companies, he runs Assort's sales, growth, and finance as its agents spread from orthopedic groups to health systems.

Stanford, Cambridge, and medical school

He grew up with a physician father and a statistician mother, and that mix gave him an early interest in using technology and data to improve healthcare. He earned a degree in bioinformatics at Stanford University, where he published seven papers on healthcare AI, and he was a Gates Cambridge Scholar, a scholarship for graduate study at the University of Cambridge in England. He then became an MD candidate at the University of California, San Francisco, where he saw how hard it can be for patients to find their way through care.

Shimmer and Assort Health

Before Assort he founded Shimmer, a Y Combinator-backed company that provides ADHD coaching. He left medical school to build a startup, and a venture capitalist introduced him to Jeffery Liu by cold email. Wang was in New York and Liu in San Francisco when they started working together. At Assort, Wang owns sales, marketing, growth, and finance, while Liu owns engineering, product, customer operations, and implementation.

Assort reached a $1.2 billion valuation in under three years, and its staff grew from about 15 people to nearly 250 in a year. Its $120 million Series C, led by Menlo Ventures in June 2026, brought total funding to more than $222 million. "This market is going to consolidate in the same way every other one has," he said in the Series C announcement.
