Company leader
Lucia Huang
Co-founder and CEO
Osmind
Lucia Huang is the co-founder and chief executive of Osmind, which makes EHR and billing software for psychiatry practices. She led business and operations at the biotech company Verge Genomics before she started Osmind.
Banking, investing, and biotech
Huang began her career as an investment banker at Evercore, advising large drug companies. She then became a growth investor at Warburg Pincus, backing healthcare technology firms, among them makers of EHR systems.
At Verge Genomics she led business and operations for a company using AI to find drug targets for brain diseases such as ALS and Parkinson's. That work showed her how neuroscience was turning into a more data-driven field.
A partnership formed at Stanford
Huang met Jimmy Qian in the fall of 2019, when she was an MBA student at Stanford and he was studying for his MD there. Both grew up in the Bay Area and had watched people around them struggle with depression and anxiety. "It was especially illuminating growing up here and seeing what people our age were going through," Huang said.
Before building anything, the two interviewed Stanford psychiatry faculty and dozens of Bay Area psychiatrists. They heard about treatment plans kept on paper, outcome surveys sent home with patients, and heavy administrative loads. Huang summed up the gap: "Psychiatry is not data-driven, to no fault of clinicians or researchers."
Building Osmind
Huang and Qian launched Osmind in 2020 with an EHR built for psychiatry and a research effort that studies the data it collects. Within three years it served more than 400 clinics in 45 states, and its data supported one of the largest real-world studies of ketamine therapy for depression.
Huang appeared on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list for her work in healthcare. She has urged other founders toward hard problems, arguing that now more than ever "the world needs innovators to start companies in mission-driven spaces where people are really hurting."
