Michael Finke is chief executive of Jacobian, a radiology reporting company with offices in Munich, Germany, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Its products combine Fluency for Imaging speech recognition with structured report templates, so a radiologist dictates and the report comes out in a set format.

Research at Carnegie Mellon University

He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in computer science at the University of Karlsruhe in Germany. He worked at the University of Karlsruhe, at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, and at IBM Research, and he has written more than 100 papers and holds more than 20 patents.

Building Speech Software at M*Modal

He was co-founder and chief technology officer of Interactive Systems, which Lernout & Hauspie bought. In 2001 he co-founded M*Modal, where he was chairman and chief executive until 2012 and president from 2011 to 2020. M*Modal's speech and clinical documentation software was used in about 5,000 hospitals. After 3M bought M*Modal in 2019, he ran its clinician products as a vice president of 3M Health Information Systems until 2020.

Fluency for Imaging, the radiology product M*Modal built, passed to Solventum when 3M spun off its health care business. Smart Reporting bought it at the end of December 2025, the combined company took the name Jacobian, and Finke became its chief executive. He is also chief AI architect at GrowthCurve Capital and sits on the board of Nym Health.
