Proximie

Nadine Hachach-Haram is a plastic surgeon and the founder and chief executive of Proximie, a London company that connects operating rooms to the cloud. Born in California and raised in Beirut, she built Proximie so surgeons can join operations remotely and OR managers can see turnover, utilization, and delays as they happen.

Growing up in Beirut

She was born in California in the early 1980s. Her parents had emigrated to the United States during Lebanon's civil war, and when she was ten the family moved back to Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. Her father, a computer engineer, worked in Saudi Arabia because of Lebanon's economy, so she grew up in Beirut with her mother and her grandmother, Leila, who ran charities for women and families and brought the children into that work.

As a teenager in post-war Lebanon she saw many people with injured or missing limbs. A family friend in Sidon, a city on Lebanon's southern coast, first showed her an operating room, and she decided to become a surgeon.

Plastic surgery and global health

She trained as a plastic surgeon and has worked at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital in London. She spent about 10 years working as a surgeon on global health initiatives, work that fit her upbringing but did not feel like enough. A Lancet Commission finding that five billion people lack access to safe surgery pushed her toward technology that could spread surgical expertise further.

In 2018 she received the British Empire Medal in the Queen's Birthday Honours for her work in surgery and medicine.

Founding Proximie

She launched Proximie in 2016 so surgeons could virtually scrub in to any operating room. She had worked with medical device companies on product training and launches, and early talk of augmented-reality surgery and the release of Pokémon Go shaped its first design.

Proximie raised an $80 million Series C in 2022 led by Advent Life Sciences. Its newer Intelligence Suite captures data from each operating room and predicts delays, which lets a hospital run more cases in the rooms it has. In 2026 Proximie signed a deal with UC San Diego Health for 44 operating and procedure rooms and began a year-long evaluation with eight NHS hospitals, AWS, and Deloitte. "The OR is brilliant and broken at the same time," she said in September 2026.

Personal

As a child she was a gamer who liked to put computers together. She lives in London with her husband and three children.
