Tom Liddell
Founder and Chairman
Harmony Healthcare IT
Tom Liddell founded Harmony Healthcare IT, a South Bend, Indiana, company that moves and archives data from old healthcare software, in 2006. He led it as CEO for two decades before becoming chairman in 2026, drawing on more than 35 years in healthcare IT.
From SMI to WebMD
Liddell began his career as president and co-founder of SMI, a healthcare technology firm that became part of the publicly traded Medical Manager Corp. At WebMD he later held senior executive roles and led the build and launch of its integrated financial systems and electronic health records.
Health Information Exchange Work
Liddell ran a health information exchange and served as chief information officer for a regional reference laboratory, blood bank, and pathology organization. That work rested on a belief he still holds: "get data to the right place, to the right provider and the quality of care improves."
Founding Harmony Healthcare IT
He founded Harmony Healthcare IT in 2006 with people he had worked with before, at first aiming to build a broader health technology services group. As hospitals adopted electronic health records, the team saw that old digital systems would need to be retired the way paper archives once were. The name came from the idea of harmonizing data: "if data were notes, we've got a place for all of that."
Handing Over the CEO Role
Under Liddell, Harmony served more than 550 healthcare organizations, moved data from more than 715 software brands, and drew a significant investment from Novacap in 2023. Brian Liddell succeeded him as CEO on April 30, 2026, and Tom became chairman of the board. He sums up one of the company's core values this way: "never be too proud to serve in any capacity."
Music and Golf
Away from the office, Liddell spends time with family and friends, listens to music, and plays the occasional round of golf. He is always up for a game.
