Population health & analytics · Medication optimization AI
Arine
Arine is a medication intelligence company in San Francisco, California, whose AI platform helps health plans and risk-bearing provider groups find members whose medications are unsafe, ineffective, or not being taken, and recommends who to contact and what to change.
Strong fit
- Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and commercial plans working on medication quality and Star measures
- Risk-bearing provider groups that want pharmacists to focus on their highest-risk patients
- Plans that want medication recommendations ranked by likely cost and quality impact
Weak fit
- Retail pharmacies looking for dispensing or pharmacy management software
- Small practices without pharmacists or care managers to act on recommendations
- Buyers who want published prices
Bottom line
Arine is an AI medication optimization platform for health plans and risk-bearing provider groups. It suits organizations with pharmacists or care managers who want to know which members' medications to fix first and what to recommend. Pharmacies looking for dispensing software, and small practices without clinical staff to follow up, should look elsewhere.
Score breakdown
Weights: Outcomes 35% · Product 30% · Implementation 20% · Pricing clarity 15%.
Arine is used by health plans and by risk-bearing provider organizations, such as medical groups paid a set amount to care for Medicare Advantage members. Its software combines claims, pharmacy, clinical, social, and behavioral data, flags members with medication problems, and recommends which members to contact and which changes to suggest to their prescribers. Pharmacists, care managers, and quality teams use the results for medication reviews, adherence programs, and Star ratings work.
Arine sells enterprise contracts and does not publish prices. It has an estimated $35 million in annual revenue, which makes it one of the larger venture-backed medication management vendors and far smaller than the pharmacy benefit managers its clients also work with. Medication therapy management services such as OutcomesMTM and SinfoníaRx compete for the same budgets. Among companies we review, Cozeva handles quality measurement and risk adjustment, Certilytics builds predictive analytics for plans, and Navina summarizes charts for value-based primary care.
Yoona Kim, a pharmacist and health economist, co-founded Arine in 2017 with chief technology officer Penjit "Boom" Moorhead. The company launched commercially in 2019 with a Medicaid plan, raised an $11 million Series A in 2021 and a $29 million Series B in 2022, and doubled its revenue in 2023, according to its About page. In June 2025 it raised a $30 million Series C led by Town Hall Ventures, with Kaiser Permanente Ventures joining, for $66 million in total funding.
Arine says its programs have produced more than 10% in total cost savings and more than 40% fewer hospitalizations, and that it grew more than 100% in the year before the Series C, with existing clients expanding contracts by an average of 80%. Magellan Health, a client since 2020, is quoted in that announcement. The About page says Arine works with five national health plans and seven Blue Cross Blue Shield plans and produces more than 40 million recommendations a year.
Arine also uses its data to address gaps in care between groups of members. In a 2023 Managed Healthcare Executive interview, Kim described work with SCAN Health, where Black and Latino members took their medications as prescribed 85% of the time, compared with 88% for white members, and explained how Arine's models choose which members to contact and how.
With the Series C money, Arine said it would expand into specialty pharmacy management, a fast-growing and costly area of drug spending, and use AI to automate high-volume, low-complexity tasks for clinicians.
What customers say
What people like
"The worklist ranks members by how much a medication change would help them, so our pharmacists start each day with the people most at risk."
"Seeing claims, pharmacy fills, and clinical data together means we find a duplicate heart medication before the patient ends up back in the hospital."
What people don't like
"Arine tells us what to change, but our own pharmacists and care managers still have to call members and reach their prescribers."
"We could not get a price without going through a full sales process."
Where customer reviews couldn't be found, our analysts attempted to give a voice to buyer sentiment, drawing on real information from review sites, forums, and product documentation.
