Collette Health
Tracy Mills is the founder and executive chairman of Collette Health, an Indiana company whose virtual sitting and virtual nursing platform helps hospitals watch over patients at risk of falls.
Early Years in Indiana
He was born in French Lick, Indiana, a rural town, where his father was a teacher and his mother worked in retail. At 14 he started picking up balls on the driving range at the French Lick Resort golf course, then caddied, and through caddying he won a full scholarship to college.
Video Before Video Calls
He started his career as a software developer at AT&T and, after earning an MBA, became its director of video conferencing in the 1990s, when the technology was new. "I have always had a passion for technology and people." He left AT&T to build Interactive Digital Solutions, which supplies, installs and supports telehealth and video equipment.
From MedSitter to Collette Health
During a hospital installation, his team learned how many patients were falling and how much hospitals spent on sitters who stayed in a single room. He saw that a camera cart could let one remote observer watch up to ten patients and speak to them in real time, and in 2017 he founded MedSitter to do that. The company later began employing its own observers at its base in Indianapolis, Indiana, for hospitals with no staff to spare.
MedSitter took the name Collette Health in 2023 as it moved into virtual nursing, and Holly Miller became chief executive in September 2024, with him as executive chairman. "Every day that I get to work on a technology that saves lives is a super fantastic day, and I like to remind myself of that often."
