Bottom line

Cliniconex is a good choice for clinics and senior care homes that want automated reminders, alerts and family messages tied to their EHR, with prices posted online. It suits Canadian groups and PointClickCare homes best. US practices should confirm their EHR link and ask for US references first.

Anthony Mar started Cliniconex in 2009 in Ottawa, Canada, with Tom Phillips, now its chief technology officer. Kevin Haaland is chief executive today.

Its first product, ACM Alerts, sent automated appointment reminders, and the first one went out in 2011. Cliniconex now sells the Automated Care Platform, which pairs Automated Care Messaging for reminders, alerts and secure messages with Automated Care Scheduling for online booking, check-in, forms and surveys.

Messages go out by text, voice or email and are written back to the patient's chart, so staff can see who confirmed or cancelled. Senior care homes use it to send outbreak notices, care plan reminders and family updates. Community paramedicine programs use it for referrals and home visit follow-up.

Cliniconex says it serves more than 1,600 clinics, 3,800 senior care facilities and 6,000 providers, and sends more than 1 million messages a month. It connects to EHRs such as PointClickCare, MatrixCare, WellSky, Meditech and Epic. Cliniconex says its platform meets HIPAA, PIPEDA and ISO 27001 standards.

Many of the EHRs on its pricing page are Canadian systems, such as Accuro and OSCAR. US buyers should ask for references from clinics on their own EHR.

Solutionreach and Relatient fit US practices that want reminders, recalls and scheduling from a US vendor. Luma Health fits health systems that want a broader patient access suite, and Curogram fits practices that want two-way texting and online intake.

Pricing

ItemDetail
ModelCliniconex charges a monthly subscription. Its Lite plan for clinics is priced by active contacts and monthly appointments, and its Plus plan adds a fee for each provider and site.
What usually drives costFor Cliniconex, cost depends on the number of active patient contacts, appointment volume, providers and sites, plus add-ons such as wait time and patient queue displays.
What to ask before you buyAsk Cliniconex whether its link to your EHR is live today, which US clients you can call, and which add-ons your clinic needs.
NotePointClickCare resells some Cliniconex messaging tools to its senior care customers, so those prices are set separately.
