Score breakdown
Weights: Outcomes 35% · Product 30% · Implementation 20% · Pricing clarity 15%.
David Lischner, a psychiatrist who ran Evidence Based Treatment Centers of Seattle, founded Valant in 2005 with his brother Ben Lischner, a former software developer at AT&T Wireless, because generic record systems did not fit mental health care. Valant's software handles notes and treatment plans, intake forms and scored assessments, e-prescribing with prescription drug monitoring checks, group therapy, scheduling, billing through a built-in clearinghouse, telehealth, and a patient portal. Its AI Notes Assist drafts session notes for the clinician to edit. Valant also offers tools for intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs, the levels of care between weekly therapy and an inpatient stay, including utilization review.
Gemspring Capital invested in Valant in 2019, and Resurgens Technology Partners bought it in December 2023, when it served more than 22,000 behavioral health professionals in all 50 states. Ram Krishnan, who spent nearly 15 years at GE Healthcare, has been chief executive since October 2020.
Compare Kipu Health when a residential or addiction treatment center needs census, admissions, and multi-site billing, and Sunwave when a treatment center wants records, admissions marketing, and billing in one system.
