Company leader
Andrew Hines
Founder and CEO
Canvas Medical
Andrew Hines is founder and chief executive of Canvas Medical. He built the record so a clinic can change its own screens instead of waiting on the vendor.
Early life
As a teenager he started Apex Precision Surfboards, using design software and robots to shape boards for surfers, and he sold that company at 19. He earned a bachelor's degree in mathematical statistics and business administration from San Francisco State University, then a master's in management science and engineering from Stanford.
Business
He had started a doctorate at Stanford when he left to join Nor1, a travel-technology company, as its first analytics employee. He later worked at Practice Fusion, where he built a real-time analytics tool on top of the record. In 2015 he founded Canvas after watching his wife, Annalies, a family nurse practitioner, struggle with clinic software. Canvas is an electronic record a practice can extend, with interfaces a developer uses to change the chart.
Personal
He lives with his wife and their two sons. He still surfs.
