Blake Wu is a partner at NEA, the venture capital firm, where he has invested in digital health and biopharmaceutical companies since joining in 2014. He sits on the board of Basalt Health.
From Wharton to Health Care Private Equity
Wu graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor's degree in economics, with concentrations in finance, real estate, and management, according to his NEA profile. He worked in equity research at Barclays Capital and investment banking at Moelis & Company, then joined the private equity group at Ares Management, where he focused on health care.
Digital Health at NEA
At NEA, Wu focuses on health care services, health care IT, and biopharmaceuticals, and his profile lists portfolio companies including Aetion and Collective Health. “I talk with each of my entrepreneurs several times a week, and I never take for granted the trust they put in our relationship,” he says there. He describes his grandparents, who fled war, revolution, and economic crises before reaching America, as his inspiration.
Backing Basalt Health
NEA invested in Basalt in its seed round and led its $20 million Series A in September 2026. “The company's AI-powered platform is becoming essential infrastructure for care teams,” Wu said in the announcement.
