Brian Whorley
Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Paytient
Brian Whorley is the founder and chief executive of Paytient, a Columbia, Missouri, company whose interest-free card helps employees and health plan members pay medical bills over time. He started it in 2018 after a decade working inside a hospital.
An Engineer from Springfield
Whorley grew up in Springfield, Missouri, and earned a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from the University of Missouri in 2003, according to a Mizzou profile. He worked as a process engineer at a hospital, and in a Paytient blog post he described spending a decade at Boone Hospital Center.
With Daniel Lynn, now Paytient's chief technology officer, he built software for a delivery app, which they sold in 2013.
A Bike Ride on the MKT Trail
The idea for Paytient came to him on a bike ride on the MKT trail in Columbia, according to the Mizzou profile. He and Lynn founded the company in 2018 to let people pay for care over time without interest, with an employer covering the cost through a monthly subscription.
Selling to Insurers
Paytient now has contracts with all of the Fortune 100 health insurers, Whorley said in an April 2026 interview. In June 2025 it raised $40 million from Trinity Capital, and in July 2026 it added prescription savings through GoodRx and Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drugs.
