Stepful

Carl Madi is the co-founder and chief executive of Stepful, which trains adults for medical assistant and other allied health roles and places them with employer partners. He came from marketplace operations at Uber and Handy.

Uber, Handy, and Wharton

Madi spent years scaling consumer marketplace operations at Uber and Handy, and earlier helped expand Amino Apps internationally after earning an MBA from Wharton in 2017, according to his Stepful team page and a TechCrunch profile.

Founding Stepful

During the pandemic he saw people lose gig work overnight while healthcare faced shortages of medical assistants. In 2021 he co-founded Stepful with Tressia Hobeika and Edoardo Serra through Y Combinator to offer a shorter, lower-cost training path than traditional trade schools.

TechCrunch reported programs that average about four months and $2,500, with live cohorts, AI coaching for students who fall behind, and clinical placements across thousands of partner sites.

Scaling the Workforce Pipeline

Stepful raised a $31.5 million Series B led by Oak HC/FT. Madi has said the funding supports more students, practical nursing offerings, new schools, and B2B tools for health system partners.
