Incredible Health

Iman Abuzeid is the co-founder and chief executive of Incredible Health, a San Francisco company whose marketplace and AI agents help hospitals hire permanent nurses and other clinicians. She trained as a doctor, then chose software so she could reach more than one patient at a time.

From Khartoum Roots to London

Abuzeid was born to Sudanese parents in Saudi Arabia, where her father worked as an ear, nose, and throat surgeon, according to a Carnegie Great Immigrants profile. She studied medicine at University College London, then skipped residency.

"Working as a doctor is great, but you're only working with one patient at a time," she told Crunchbase News. With software, she said, "you have millions of users using your products."

Consulting, Wharton, and San Francisco

She moved to the United States at 24, worked in healthcare consulting at Booz Allen and McKinsey, earned an MBA at the Wharton School, and became a product manager at a health tech startup in San Francisco, according to Crunchbase News.

There she met Rome Portlock, an MIT-trained engineer who became her co-founder. They started Incredible Health in 2017 after hearing doctors complain about understaffing and nurses say they applied to jobs and heard nothing back.

Building a Unicorn Hiring Marketplace

Incredible Health reverses the usual flow so employers apply to clinicians. It has raised about $97.5 million and reached a $1.65 billion valuation after its 2022 Series B, according to Crunchbase News. Abuzeid was named to the TIME100 Next list in 2024, the Carnegie profile notes.

"At the end of the day, when it comes to creating software companies, it's about solving problems," she told Crunchbase News.
