John Ackerly is co-founder and chief executive of Virtru, a Washington, D.C. data security company that encrypts email and files with persistent access controls.
Before Virtru he worked in private equity at Lindsay Goldberg, advised technology policy at the White House National Economic Council, and served as Policy and Strategic Planning Director at the U.S. Department of Commerce. He studied at Williams College, was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford, and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.
At Virtru he has scaled a platform used across commercial and public-sector customers, including healthcare organizations that need HIPAA-capable sharing without giving up Google Workspace or Microsoft 365.
