Lou Silverman

Chairman and CEO

Hicuity Health

Lou Silverman is chairman and chief executive of Hicuity Health, a St. Louis, Missouri, company whose remote doctors and nurses watch over ICU and telemetry patients for hospitals. Silverman believes the line between in-person and virtual care is disappearing, even in intensive care.

Amherst and Harvard Business School

Silverman graduated cum laude from Amherst College and earned an MBA at Harvard Business School, according to his Hicuity biography.

Running Public Healthcare Companies

Before Hicuity he was CEO of three healthcare companies. At Quality Systems he served eight years as CEO while its market value rose about 30 times to $1.2 billion. At CorVel he served seven years as CEO, through 28 straight quarters of growth. He was also CEO of Marina Medical.

He has served on the board of Questcor Pharmaceuticals and as chairman of STAAR Surgical.

Explaining Tele-ICU

Hicuity, then called Advanced ICU Care, began when two intensivists were asked to cover ICUs on opposite sides of St. Louis at the same time. Silverman told Fierce Healthcare in 2019 that only a few years earlier he still opened meetings with prospective clients by asking, "What (the heck) is tele-ICU?"

"People are getting older, older people understandably use more ICU resources, and the supply of intensivists is and will remain flat," he said. "Tele-ICU programs leverage technology to deliver world-class critical care expertise exactly where it is needed."

Selling Hicuity to DocGo

Under Silverman the company renamed itself Hicuity Health in 2021 and grew into virtual nursing, telemetry, and hospital at home. In August 2026 DocGo agreed to buy Hicuity by taking on about $52 million of its debt.
