Chief Executive Officer

Spok

Vincent Kelly is chief executive of Spok, which runs one of the largest paging networks in the US and sells communications software to hospitals. Kelly believes hospitals still need pagers that work when everything else fails, alongside modern messaging.

An Accountant at Metrocall

Kelly earned a bachelor's degree in accounting at George Mason University and worked as a certified public accountant, his Spok biography says. He joined Metrocall, a paging company, in 1987 and served there as chief financial officer, chief operating officer, and finally CEO.

Merging Two Paging Rivals

In November 2004 Metrocall merged with Arch Wireless to form USA Mobility, and Kelly became CEO of the combined company.

From Pagers to Hospital Software

In 2011 USA Mobility bought Amcom Software, which made call center and messaging software for hospitals, and in 2014 the company took the name Spok. The name evokes the spokes of a wheel, with Spok at the hub of hospital communication, Virginia Business reported in 2016. At that time every hospital on the U.S. News Honor Roll was a customer.

"Pagers are still used in health care and emergency services," Kelly told Virginia Business. "When there is a major storm, mobile devices often don't work, but you can send messages to pagers, and it can get through. Pages worked in Hurricane Sandy."

Running Spok for Cash

Under Kelly, Spok has run its paging business for cash and paid much of it back to stockholders. In its third quarter 2026 results, he said the company's focus "continues to be on generating cash flow and returning capital to stockholders, while responsibly investing for future growth." Spok reported 2025 revenue of $139.7 million.
