Kai Van Lieshout and Linus Talacko founded Lyrebird Health in Melbourne in 2023, after building its first version in a two-week Startmate student hackathon. Van Lieshout is chief executive, and Dr Ray Boyapati is chief clinical officer.

Lyrebird listens to a consult and drafts the clinical note, then creates referrals, letters, care plans and medical certificates from it. In Australia it works inside Best Practice and Gentu, two widely used GP systems, so notes land in the chart without copying and pasting.

Lyrebird says it handles more than 28,000 consults a day. In the UK, four South West London NHS trusts are rolling it out to up to 20,000 clinicians on Oracle Cerner Millennium, with patient data synced in, notes written back, and clinical codes and referral-to-treatment data captured automatically.

Lyrebird raised a $12 million venture round in 2025, led by Five V Capital and Octopus Ventures. It has hospital customers in Australia, the UK, the US and Dubai.

Most of its integrations and references are in Australia and the UK, so US practices should ask which US record systems it supports.

Heidi Health and Tali AI fit Australian and Canadian clinicians that want another ambient scribe. Freed and Twofold Health fit US clinicians that want a low-cost scribe, and Nabla fits health systems that want a scribe with EHR integrations in the US and Europe.
