Lisa McLaughlin and Robin McIntosh founded Workit Health in 2015. The two met in Alcoholics Anonymous, and both are in long-term recovery. Gil Kochman is chief executive today.

Members download the app, answer a few questions, and Workit checks their insurance. A physician assistant or nurse practitioner meets them by video, usually within one to two days, and sends prescriptions for Suboxone or naltrexone to a local or mail-order pharmacy.

Workit treats opioid use disorder, alcohol use disorder, and dependence on kratom and 7-OH, a stronger compound from the kratom plant. Its clinicians can also treat anxiety, depression, insomnia and hepatitis C. Alcohol care allows a goal of cutting back or quitting, with no 12-step requirement.

Workit says 95% of members start care within two days and 54% are still in treatment at six months. In 2025 it began shared follow-up visits that fold counseling into medical appointments, after fewer than 15% of members joined counseling groups in a typical month. Its research team publishes peer-reviewed studies, including one in JAMA Network Open on pharmacy barriers to buprenorphine.

Workit treats members in 14 states and opened in California, Washington and Illinois in 2025. It is a Certified B Corporation and raised a $118 million Series C in 2021.

Ophelia and Bicycle Health fit when a patient needs opioid care only and wants a lower flat self-pay price. Boulder Care fits when the patient also wants peer recovery coaches and a case manager.
