Verisma

Marty McKenna is the president and chief executive of Verisma, a release of information company in Alpharetta, Georgia, that handles medical record requests for hospitals, physician groups, and health plans. He is an electrical engineer who spent his early career building health IT at GE and Allscripts.

Engineering at Purdue and GE

McKenna earned bachelor's and master's degrees in electrical engineering from Purdue University and later an MBA from the University of Chicago, according to his Verisma biography. At GE he was an integration manager and then global general manager for perioperative IT. He is a Six Sigma Black Belt and holds software patents.

From dbMotion to Allscripts Analytics

He then ran operations and marketing at dbMotion and later served as president of Allscripts Analytics.

Leading Verisma

At Verisma, McKenna has argued that release of information belongs at the center of hospital strategy. In a 2017 For The Record article on rising request volumes, he said, "Revenue is going down but patient access and the cost to provide that is going up," and called for the health information management director to act as the quarterback of a team drawn from compliance, finance, billing, and IT. He also said digital access lets patients "take ownership and control of their health."

Under McKenna, Verisma merged with ScanSTAT in 2023 in a deal funded by NewSpring. When Black Book ranked Verisma its top release of information vendor for the eighth year in a row in 2026, he said, "We are committed to ensuring that the operational workflows around ROI function seamlessly."
