Score breakdown
Weights: Outcomes 35% · Product 30% · Implementation 20% · Pricing clarity 15%.
AblePay Health works on the part of the bill that insurance does not pay. Providers offer AblePay to their patients and enter it as a secondary payer in their billing system, and AblePay pays them a guaranteed, risk-free amount within two weeks of billing, according to its website. Patients enroll, show an AblePay card at the time of service, and then pay AblePay over time, with free access to its advocacy team for billing questions.
AblePay says it pays providers at rates well above their usual collection rate on patient balances, and that enrolled patients can save on what they owe. It does not publish either rate. The company says providers can start by adding AblePay as a payer while keeping their current billing processes.
The closest competitors are Cedar, PayZen, PatientPay, and Inbox Health.
John Fistner founded AblePay in 2016 and is its chief executive. On October 7, 2026 the company announced a $20 million Series A led by F-Prime, with A1 Health Ventures and .406 Ventures. It cited Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services figures showing Americans paid $591 billion out of pocket for health care in 2025, up 6% from the year before. Nikhil Marathe, a principal at F-Prime, led the investment.
AblePay is ten years old, and it publishes no data on how many providers or patients use it. The company says the new money will help it reach more health systems and build out its technology.
