Healthleap
Healthleap is AI software that reads every adult inpatient's record each night, including clinicians' notes, and writes a risk score into the care team's workflow to flag patients who may have undiagnosed malnutrition, delirium, or other conditions.
Strong fit
- Hospitals that want to find and document more malnourished patients
- Clinical nutrition and quality teams at large hospitals
- Finance teams that want the expected return written into the contract
Weak fit
- Small hospitals with few inpatients
- Outpatient and home care settings, which it does not cover yet
- Buyers who want a fixed published price
Bottom line
Healthleap screens every adult inpatient overnight for missed conditions such as malnutrition and delirium and puts a risk score in front of the care team each morning. It suits large hospitals that want more complete documentation and shorter stays. Its strongest results come from academic centers, and newer conditions are still in clinical validation.

Healthleap is used by hospital clinical nutrition, quality, and care teams. Each night it reads every adult inpatient's record, including labs, vital signs, weights, medications, diet orders, diagnoses, and clinicians' notes, and each morning it writes a risk score into the care team's existing workflow, with a dashboard of each patient's trends, chief executive Josiah Meyer told TechCrunch. Language models pull signs such as poor appetite, recent weight loss, or trouble swallowing out of written notes. The software does not diagnose patients, and it only flags them for review.
Healthleap sells three-year contracts priced by a hospital's licensed bed count, with outcome-based terms. Meyer said every customer has seen a hard return of at least five times the contract price. At the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, the company says its malnutrition program produced $23.8 million in annualized financial impact, $6.3 million from added reimbursement and $17.5 million from shorter stays.
The closest competitors are SmarterDx, Xsolis, and Navina, which also use AI to read patient records.
Siblings Jemima and Josiah Meyer, who studied at the University of the Free State in South Africa, started the company as NutriLeap, a clinical nutrition tool Jemima built as a dietitian, with Ray Botha as chief technology officer, according to The Open Letter. Healthleap is now in more than 50 hospitals, up from three a year earlier, including Penn Medicine, Cedars-Sinai, Intermountain, Houston Methodist, and Emory Healthcare, and Meyer said revenue grew more than 10 times over that period. On October 7, 2026 TechCrunch reported $38 million in funding: an $8 million seed co-led by Sequoia Capital and First Round Capital and a $30 million Series A led by Hummingbird Ventures.
Programs for aspiration pneumonia, pressure ulcers, and heart failure readmission risk are still in clinical validation. The company plans to cover more than 40 conditions and to move into outpatient and home care.
