Clinical systems · AI progress notes for therapists
Mentalyc
Mentalyc is AI software for therapists that writes progress notes and treatment plans from therapy sessions and sends them to the clinician's EHR.
Strong fit
- Solo therapists and counselors who want notes written from the session
- Practices on SimplePractice, TherapyNotes or Jane that want notes sent to the chart
- Buyers who want posted prices and a free trial
Weak fit
- Large behavioral health organizations that need enterprise contracts and analytics
- Clinicians who will not record sessions
- Programs that need a full EHR with billing
Bottom line
Mentalyc is a strong choice for therapists and small group practices that want AI to write progress notes and treatment plans, with prices posted from $14.99 a month. It suits clinicians who keep their current EHR. Large behavioral health organizations will want more enterprise reporting than it offers.

Maria Szandrach and Georgi Urumov founded Mentalyc in 2021, and Szandrach is chief executive. Mentalyc says more than 30,000 therapists use it.
A therapist records a session in person or by video, or dictates a summary, and Mentalyc drafts the progress note in formats such as SOAP, DAP and BIRP. The therapist reviews and edits the note, then sends it to SimplePractice, TherapyNotes or Jane with one click, or keeps it in Mentalyc.
Its treatment planner drafts goals from session content, and its progress tracker charts change over time. Alliance Genie scores the therapeutic relationship across 27 areas so clinicians can spot when it is weakening, and a worksheet matcher suggests handouts for each client.
Mentalyc is HIPAA compliant and SOC 2 Type II audited, and it signs a business associate agreement with every account. It deletes session audio once the note is ready, removes identifying details from transcripts, and does not use session data to train AI models.
Mentalyc is a documentation tool, not an EHR, so practices still need separate scheduling and billing software. Clients should consent before sessions are recorded.
Upheal and Blueprint fit therapists who want AI notes with other practice tools. Eleos Health fits larger behavioral health organizations that want AI notes with enterprise analytics.
